Many people are somewhat “allergic” to Japanese terms. They immediately search for an expression in the local language. This is completely legitimate. Yet I must say that the current translations I have seen so far don’t reflect the complete significance of Genchi Genbutsu.
Many companies are waiting for the home-run idea that will deliver a 10X breakthrough that will solve everything. The argument goes: why settle for a 1% improvement when we could get 1000% from a big innovation? The thing few companies realize (because so few have achieved it) is that 10X improvement is not what it’s cracked up to be.
